Following the attacks initiated by Israel against Iran, tensions in the region have reached a peak with Tehran's retaliatory moves. Meanwhile, the U.S. press has reported on the background of Tel Aviv's decision that has stirred up the Middle East. According to this, U.S. President Donald Trump initially opposed an attack on Iran but was later persuaded by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to change his mind.
After Israel's attacks on Iran began, tensions in the region peaked as Tehran also started to retaliate, and it became clear how the U.S. was involved in this process.
TRUMP INITIALLY OPPOSED
According to the U.S.-based Wall Street Journal, President Donald Trump initially tried to stop Tel Aviv. Trump clearly reflected this stance in both his public statements and direct contacts with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
"WE CAN'T WAIT" MESSAGE
In his discussions with Netanyahu, Trump stated that a potential attack on Iran should be postponed and that more time should be given to diplomacy. However, Netanyahu, who responded negatively to Trump's call, said, "We can’t wait any longer. We must defend ourselves."
NETANYAHU CONVINCED HIM
According to White House sources, Netanyahu convinced Trump that Iran would never accept a real nuclear deal. Thus, Trump communicated that they would not stand in Tel Aviv's way, but the U.S. military would not directly attack Iran either.
