AK Party Ankara Deputy Osman Gökçek claimed that CHP Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır took advantage of the absence of AK Party members who were breaking their fast to conduct a vote. Başarır reacted strongly to this allegation, while the Deputy Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Bekir Bozdağ, denied Gökçek's claim that escalated the tension.

During the minutes when the group proposal regarding the privatization of CHP's Çayırhan Thermal Power Plant was discussed in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), a post made caused the tension to peak.

GÖKÇEK'S CONTROVERSIAL POST DURING THE MEETING

AK Party Ankara Deputy Osman Gökçek claimed on his social media account that CHP Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır was trying to close the Assembly by taking attendance, taking advantage of the absence of AK Party deputies who were at iftar.

"DO YOU HAVE NO RESPECT FOR PEOPLE'S BELIEFS?"

In his post, Gökçek stated; "Dear citizens, CHP Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır took attendance in the Assembly during iftar time, taking advantage of our AK Party deputy's breaking of fast. The CHP members who previously targeted those going to Friday prayers in Istanbul are now trying to close the Assembly by taking advantage of those who are having iftar. Do you have no respect for people's beliefs? Don't you feel any shame?"

BAŞARIR'S RESPONSE: PROVOCATION, THIS IS A CRIME

In the discussions that resumed after iftar, CHP Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır reacted to Gökçek's post. Başarır said, "An AK Party deputy tweeted... Mr. Chairman, you took a break close to iftar time, our deputies and staff broke their fast for over an hour, then you came and opened the Assembly, is that correct?

(To Bozdağ) You speak, please. Now, a deputy whose name I am ashamed to even mention is tweeting this. We can be political rivals, we can criticize each other harshly, but this is a provocation. This is a crime. Why would I take attendance to prevent our deputies from breaking their fast at iftar time... This deputy and his family are now creating environmental pollution in Turkey and unfortunately in the Assembly. You are witnesses to this, it is primarily your responsibility to protect the dignity of this Assembly. Please, was it like this, or not, I would like to hear from you?"

BEKİR BOZDAĞ DENIED GÖKÇEK

In response, Bekir Bozdağ said; "Dear deputies, as you know, during today's discussions, we voted on the CHP group's proposal and took a break for 55 minutes. Then, internal regulation 37 was discussed, and attendance was requested afterward. So probably, I guess the CHP group requested attendance after more than an hour had passed since iftar time."
