Millions of retirees are eagerly awaiting the holiday bonuses for Ramadan and Eid al-Adha, which remains a hot topic. One of the most curious aspects is the rate of increase in payments compared to last year. As the date of Ramadan approaches, discussions regarding this issue are intensifying. Economic circles are focusing on three scenarios for this year's holiday bonuses for retirees: the six-month inflation rate, the annual inflation rate, and a flat increase.
THREE DIFFERENT INCREASE FORMULAS ON THE TABLE
While warm messages regarding the protection of retirees against inflation are coming from the government side, three new price calculations based on last year's payments of 3,000 TL are on the agenda. Accordingly, in the strongest scenarios:
- Increase in Inflation Rate: If an increase is made based on the six-month inflation rate of 15.75% in January, the current bonus of 3,000 TL could rise to 3,472 TL. It is expected that this amount will be rounded to 3,500 TL.
- Increase in Annual Inflation Rate: The inflation rate for 2024 was realized at 44.38%. If an increase is made at this rate, the bonus could rise to 4,331 TL. It may be rounded to 4,500 TL.
- Flat Increase: Similar to last year, a 50% increase could be applied, raising the bonus to 4,500 TL. In fact, it could be increased to 5,000 TL, making the total payment for both holidays reach 10,000 TL.
In order to increase the holiday bonuses, a legal regulation needs to be made in the Parliament. After this legal regulation is approved in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), it will be signed by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and officially come into effect.
MANY PEOPLE CAN RECEIVE HOLIDAY BONUSES
Those receiving old-age, disability, death pensions, and incapacity income from SGK benefit from the bonuses. Additionally, relatives of martyrs, veterans, combat veterans, security guards, civilians affected by terrorism, and rightful claimants also receive payments. The holiday bonus is paid equally to all retirees, regardless of the amount of their pension. For those receiving widow and orphan pensions and incapacity benefits, the calculation is made according to the share ratio.
BONUS PAYMENTS ARE DEPOSITED INTO ACCOUNTS ONE WEEK BEFORE THE HOLIDAY
The holiday bonus for retirees is deposited into accounts one week before Ramadan and Eid al-Adha. This year, Ramadan will be celebrated between March 30 and April 1. Since the eve is on Saturday, March 29, it is expected that the bonuses will be deposited into accounts between March 24-28. Eid al-Adha will take place from June 6 to June 9. It is anticipated that the bonuses for this holiday will likely be paid between June 2-5.
