The leader of the PKK, Abdullah Öcalan's call for disarmament received a response from Mustafa Karasu, one of the so-called leaders of the terrorist organization. In relation to the discussions on whether the PKK will comply with Abdullah Öcalan's call, Karasu stated, "We will realize the transformation put forth by the leadership, the dissolution of the PKK, and the end of the armed struggle. No one should have any doubts about this."
After the meetings held by the DEM Party delegation in İmralı, a statement came from the terrorist organization PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan. Öcalan called for the PKK terrorist organization to lay down its arms. Following the call, the PKK announced that it had declared a ceasefire.
RESPONSE FROM PKK TO ÖCALAN'S CALL
While it is wondered how the process will continue, the clearest response from the PKK so far has come. Mustafa Karasu, one of the PKK leaders, stated in a television program that they would end the armed struggle. In response to the question, "Will the terrorist organization PKK comply with Abdullah Öcalan's call?" Karasu answered: "PKK is a leadership movement. The leadership has determined the policy and ideology of the PKK. In this respect, the leadership determines what this movement will do. We cannot represent this movement, this struggle as a whole. But the leadership expresses representing this movement as a whole.
"WE WILL END THE ARMED STRUGGLE"
We are aware of this. We have always been in this approach. We have been the followers of the leadership. Today, we are also the followers of the leadership. We will realize the transformation put forward by the leadership, the dissolution of the PKK, and the end of the armed struggle. No one should have any doubts about this. The state and the government must also fulfill the requirements towards democratization without resorting to any excuses."
THE PROCESS STARTED WITH BAHÇELİ'S CALL
With the call of MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli, the DEM Party held a meeting with PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan in İmralı Prison on December 28, 2024. The party stated that the meeting took place in a sincere atmosphere and that the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) is the most suitable ground for solving the problem within the framework of democratic politics.
After this meeting, contacts that started with TBMM President Numan Kurtulmuş on January 3 were continued with the leaders and representatives of MHP, Future Party, AK Party, Felicity Party, CHP, DEVA Party, and New Welfare Party. Following these meetings, the DEM Party delegation met with PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan in İmralı on December 28, 2024. The delegation expressed that the meetings were promising. The second meeting of the İmralı Delegation and PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan took place on January 22.
