President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated before his meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, "Our defense industry cooperation with America must be freed from obstacles and restrictions as soon as possible in accordance with the spirit of alliance."

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan went to New York to attend the 80th General Assembly meeting of the United Nations. Erdoğan will have numerous contacts in New York and will then proceed to Washington to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump.

Today, President Erdoğan attended the "Sectoral Round Table Format Turkish Investment Conference" organized by the Turkish-American Business Council (TAIK) in New York City, USA.

"WE ARE ACHIEVING A PERMANENT AND STRUCTURAL IMPROVEMENT IN THE CURRENT ACCOUNT DEFICIT"

In his speech here, Erdoğan expressed that he finds the efforts to deepen commercial and economic relations with America and the interactions provided by this platform extremely valuable.

Pointing out that the recent political tensions, disruptions in supply chains, and increasing protectionist measures in trade and investments have forced the global economy into a deep transformation, Erdoğan noted: "We are updating our policy tools to ensure that both the public and our business world adapt to this transformation in global trade. The economic program we have implemented has proven its worth, increased the resilience of our economy against shocks, and significantly reduced our internal and external vulnerabilities."

We are making steady progress towards our fundamental goal of price stability. Despite adverse conditions such as drought and agricultural frost, inflation continues to decrease. By the end of the year, we will have reduced inflation to below 30 percent. We are achieving a permanent and structural improvement in the current account deficit."

CALL FOR RESTRICTIONS TO TRUMP BEFORE THE MEETING

Emphasizing that they are determined to use bilateral mechanisms more effectively regarding any issues that could negatively affect Turkey's trade in the upcoming period, Erdoğan continued: "It is our hope that additional customs duties based on reciprocity do not reduce the momentum gained in trade. We are being quite sensitive on this matter. We see energy and defense industry cooperation with America as priority areas.

Our defense industry cooperation must be freed from obstacles and restrictions in accordance with the spirit of alliance as soon as possible. There are many steps we can take in this area in line with our mutual interests, such as developing new projects, procurement, and joint production."

"I PLACE GREAT IMPORTANCE ON INCREASING MUTUAL INVESTMENTS"

Recalling that he had constructive discussions with U.S. President Donald Trump from the very first days of his second term, Erdoğan stated that the teams are continuing their work.

Erdoğan also expressed that they expect the positive momentum in Turkey-U.S. relations to accelerate further by evaluating investment and cooperation opportunities in other strategic sectors, including energy, as well as cyber and space fields.
