Professor Dr. Afşin Ahmet Kaya, a faculty member at Ondokuz Mayıs University, evaluated the fire disaster that occurred at the Bolu Kartalkaya Ski Resort in an interview with Melis Yaşar at Haberler.com. Kaya described the use of LPG in the hotel and the lack of precautions as negligence.
Prof. Dr. Afşin Ahmet Kaya from Ondokuz Mayıs University answered Melis Yaşar's questions as a guest on Haberler.com regarding the fire disaster that occurred at Bolu Kartalkaya Ski Resort. Kaya stated that security deficiencies and negligence played a significant role in the incident.
"HAVING LPG IN THE HOTEL IS NEGLIGENCE"
Prof. Dr. Afşin Ahmet Kaya expressed that keeping dangerous substances like LPG in the hotel contributed to the occurrence of the fire. Kaya said, "LPG cylinders should be used outside the building according to law and regulations. They need to be brought into the building through pipelines. These cylinders increase the risk of fire in the event of a disaster or emergency, leading to the escalation of the incident and the emergence of a second emergency situation."
"THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN WARNINGS AND A QUICK EVACUATION"
Kaya noted that the evacuation processes during the fire were inadequate, stating, "The lack of sufficient warning mechanisms in the hotel and the slow implementation of evacuation plans led to an increase in casualties and injuries. In such situations, proper warnings and quick evacuations are vital," he said.
"WOODEN MATERIALS WERE NOT COATED WITH FLAME RETARDANT SURFACE"
Kaya emphasized that one of the main reasons for the rapid spread of the fire was the improper protection of wooden surfaces, stating, "Wooden surfaces should have been coated with flame retardant materials. The lack of such materials contributed to the escalation of the fire," he added.
