Workers at the Karşıyaka Municipality, who have not received their salaries for 8 months, protested the holiday celebration ceremony that the municipal administration wanted to organize. Following the workers' reaction at the construction site, the planned ceremony was canceled, and Karşıyaka Mayor Behice Yıldız İşçimenler Ünsal left the site by getting into her vehicle.
Workers employed by the Karşıyaka Municipality's subsidiary Kent A.Ş., who have not received their wages for 8 months, gathered at the main construction site. In the action supported by the DİSK General-İş Branch 10 managers and workplace representatives, the holiday program of Mayor Behice Yıldız İşçimenler Ünsal was protested.
THE CEREMONY WAS CANCELED
After the action initiated by the workers early in the morning by opening banners, it was learned that the municipal administration halted the program planned for the holiday ceremony. Following the protest, the mayor and bureaucrats did not come to the area. Karşıyaka Mayor Behice Yıldız İşçimenler Ünsal left the construction site by getting into her official vehicle.
SALARIES WERE DEMANDED
In a statement regarding the issue, it was said, "Karşıyaka Municipality has not paid salaries to Kent A.Ş. employees for 8 months. Instead of producing a concrete solution to this ongoing violation of rights for 8 months, Karşıyaka Mayor B. Yıldız İşçimenler Ünsal attempted to organize a holiday ceremony at the main construction site as if nothing had happened. This planned ceremony, with our empty pockets, unpaid rents, and accumulated debts, is an attempt to play with the dignity of the working class. Managers and workplace representatives who did not remain silent against this injustice took their places at the main construction site early this morning, opening their banners to protest the Mayor. Upon learning of our union's determined stance at the construction site, the Mayor and bureaucrats hastily canceled their program and fled the area. The worker's holiday can only be a holiday when their rights are given before the sweat on their brow dries. You cannot manage this process by avoiding holiday ceremonies and ignoring the workers. Immediately put an end to this unlawfulness and pay our accumulated salary receivables for 8 months," the statement said.
