The images of Punch, the macaque baby abandoned by his mother in Japan, hugging his stuffed toy have garnered significant attention. The orangutan plush toy associated with Punch is in high demand in many countries, and in Turkey, it is being sold for a price of 600-700 TL.
A six-month-old macaque baby named Punch, abandoned by its mother at the Ichikawa City Zoo in Japan, gained worldwide attention through images shared on social media. The orange plush toy that Punch never leaves behind quickly began to break sales records.
TAKEN INTO CARE WHEN MOTHER LOST INTEREST
After birth, Punch was taken into care by zoo staff due to the mother's lack of interest. Officials stated that it could be the mother's first birth and that the summer heat might have prevented her from caring for the baby.
REFERRED TO AS "PUNCH'S MOTHER"
In videos circulating on social media, Punch was seen hugging its caregivers and not letting go of its plush toy while sleeping. When other monkeys approached, Punch running to its toy caught users' attention. The orangutan plush, which quickly became associated with Punch, started to be referred to as "Punch's mother" on social media.
ALSO ON SALE IN TURKEY
With the increasing interest, sales of the plush toy have risen. The product, displayed in some countries with special labels, has been offered for sale in Turkey at a price range of 600-700 TL. The story of Punch, which has become the mascot of the zoo, continues to attract attention on social media.
