Russia's Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev openly declared NATO as "Moscow's enemy." Medvedev raised tensions once again with his words, "The enemy should be treated like an enemy."
According to a report by Russia's leading agency TASS, Medvedev stated in his English post on X account, "NATO is our enemy. Which 'council' are we talking about?" expressing his pleasure at the complete elimination of the Russia-NATO Council. Reminding of the words of Soviet writer Maxim Gorky, Medvedev said, "If the enemy does not surrender, they will be destroyed."
Describing NATO as Moscow's enemy, Medvedev further escalated tensions by stating, "The enemy should be treated like an enemy."
IN LINE WITH PUTIN'S WARNING
Medvedev's remarks came shortly after Russian President Vladimir Putin's harsh statements towards Europe. Putin had said that any attack attempt from Europe would be "met with a very strong response" and warned the West by stating, "If Europe wants war, we are ready."
RESPONSE FROM RUTTE
In response to these developments, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte expressed that Russia was acting "recklessly" and emphasized that the alliance would use all its means to protect Europe.
Putin's message of "we are ready" and Medvedev's statement that "NATO is the enemy" are seen as the latest indication that Moscow is moving away from diplomatic rhetoric towards open threats against the West.
