CHP Chairman Özgür Özel reacted to Lütfü Savaş, who filed a lawsuit for the cancellation of the congress, saying, "Despite all the anger directed at him, Lütfü Bey probably couldn't find the time to object to the Congress during the process in which we nominated him, and he tried to do this a year and a half later."

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel reacted to former Hatay Metropolitan Mayor Lütfü Savaş, who filed a lawsuit regarding the 38th Ordinary Congress of the Republican People's Party (CHP) held on November 4-5, 2023, at the Ankara Sports Hall.

"PART OF THE AK PARTY'S STRATEGY"

Speaking after his visit to Future Party Chairman Ahmet Davutoğlu, Özgür Özel stated, "The lawsuit that Lütfü Savaş is trying to file is doomed to be rejected on procedural grounds."

Özel, who said, "Despite all the anger directed at him, Lütfü Bey probably couldn't find the time to object to the Congress during the process in which we nominated him, and he tried to do this a year and a half later," added, "This is part of the Justice and Development Party's strategy to occupy the opposition. Those who are part of this strategy should evaluate which whole they are a part of themselves."

NOTABLE EXPRESSIONS IN THE LAWSUIT PETITION

While Lütfü Savaş's move put the CHP in a difficult position, Savaş's cancellation petition included the statement, "After the statement of the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, my client, as a result of his research, spoke with many congress delegates and for the delegates spoken to; it was clearly stated on social media and news that pressures were exerted on the delegates to change the election result by the current party management and those in local government positions, that houses and cars were given to the delegates in exchange for votes, that suitcases full of dollars were brought to the hotels where the delegates stayed and distributed to the delegates, that iPhones and iPads were given in exchange for votes, and that some delegates were promised job opportunities to change the election result."

CONGRESS INVESTIGATION IN CHP

The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office stated that the investigation into the CHP Congress began with the allegation that "votes were bought on the day of the congress," and it was expressed that the documents were sent to the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office with a decision of incompetence following a report made to the Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.

On the other hand, the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office summoned Akif Hamzaçebi and Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu for statements; Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç stated that the investigation was initiated following the statements of some CHP members.
