Nuri Gümüş (75), who lived in the village of Çakıllı, connected to the Derinkuyu district of Nevşehir, passed away 6 days ago. Gümüş's dog, which he adopted from the street 5 years ago and named "Garip," was devastated by the death of its owner. Since the day its owner passed away, Garip has not left the head of his grave.
"HE WAS MY FATHER'S CLOSEST FRIEND"
Garip's refusal to leave the grave has moved family members. Nuri Gümüş's daughter, Nuran Çetinkaya, said, "We live in Istanbul. The only one who lived with my father in the village and shared his loneliness was this Garip. They call my father Garip Hasan's son. For this reason, my father named this dog Garip. The dog would always walk with my father. After we buried my father, Garip has been lying here day and night. Garip was my father's closest friend."
"HE ADDED PAIN TO OUR PAIN"
Nihat Gümüş, the son, stated, "We were not aware of the dog due to our grief. When we came to visit the grave, we saw Garip lying here. At first, we couldn't make sense of it. We were very surprised. We come here at night, we come here during the day. When we come here, he jumps on us, as if he is trying to tell us something. After our grief, this dog saddened us even more. He added pain to our pain. On one hand, we are very happy, and on the other hand, we are even more saddened. We are very happy to see this friendship. We had never noticed this dog before. It turns out he was my father's friend," he expressed.
