Also attending the meeting was Mazlum Abdi, the leader of the SDF, who abandoned claims of autonomy after rapidly losing the territories he controlled in Syria. It was also recorded that the U.S. side expressed its support for the integration of SDF members, controlled by the terrorist organization YPG/PKK, into the Syrian army.

The U.S. Ambassador to Turkey and Special Representative for Syria, Tom Barrack, also shared a photo from the meeting on his social media account, writing, "A picture is worth a thousand words. A new beginning."
Barrack had previously stated that the role of the SDF had largely come to an end after the Syrian government began to take the lead in the fight against ISIS in Syria.
