Former AK Party Gaziantep Deputy Şamil Tayyar described his meeting with Mehmet Şimşek on his social media account. Şimşek told Tayyar that there are no plans for across-the-board raises for pensions and the minimum wage. Tayyar stated that instead of making across-the-board raises to salaries in the first phase, efforts are being carried out to increase purchasing power.
Şamil Tayyar shared the details of his meeting with the Minister of Treasury and Finance, Mehmet Şimşek, held on July 31, via his social media account.
ELECTION PREPARATIONS ARE BEING MADE FOR 2028
In his social media post, Tayyar conveyed his impressions from his long meeting with Mehmet Şimşek, stating that he saw no preparations indicating an early election in the near future. According to his impressions from the meeting, no elections are expected in 2026 and 2027, and policies are being continued considering April 2028, the normal date for elections.
Tayyar said, "What I understood from the long conversation is that there will be no elections, let alone in 2026, even in 2027. Policies are being carried out as if the elections will be held on time, in April 2028. While the opposition continues its petty squabbles, the government is making solid preparations. It seems all the established notions will be shattered."
BAD NEWS FOR RETIREES AND MINIMUM WAGE EARNERS
Tayyar noted that to ease the burden on salaried employees, retirees, and minimum wage earners, efforts are being made to increase purchasing power rather than implementing an across-the-board raise in salaries as a first step.
Stating that three main topics stand out in this context, Tayyar listed them as rent, food, and transportation. Tayyar said that the 750,000 social housing project is important for reducing the high cost of living. Tayyar stated that work is being carried out on the food supply chain, and regarding transportation, he mentioned that determining a "revaluation rate" is on the agenda to prevent increases above cost inflation.
HE SHARED THE DETAILS OF THE MEETING
Tayyar, who stated that support for employment and facilitating access to financing will continue with increased intensity, said that new packages are also being prepared.
Tayyar noted that the Income Supplementary Support Program (GETAD) is in its final stage and stated that the additional monthly payment application for the most disadvantaged segments of society could begin in the new year.
He added that the scale used in this application could also be applied to various practices such as holiday bonuses, paving the way for providing opportunities only to low-income groups.
