Following the adoption of the highly controversial 2025 Turkey Report in the European Parliament's General Assembly, far-right Greek lawmaker Afroditi Latinopoulou took the floor and made scandalous accusations targeting Turkey, arguing that Europe's doors should be completely shut to Ankara. Addressing countries like Spain, France, and Germany, which maintain cooperation with Turkey, Latinopoulou said, "No matter how much you feed a snake, it will bite you when it finds the right moment."
In the European Parliament (EP) General Assembly, the "2025 Türkiye Report," which contains double standards towards Turkey and prompted a strong reaction from Ankara, was adopted with 381 votes in favor and 107 against.
GREEK MEP'S SCANDALOUS WORDS ABOUT TURKEY
Following the approval of the report, far-right Greek Member of Parliament Afroditi Latinopoulou, known for her opposition to Turkey, delivered a provocative speech that completely disregarded the facts.
Claiming that Turkey's European Union (EU) membership process and progress cannot be discussed, Latinopoulou made the following insolent statements: "Islamic Turkey represents very specific things. We are facing a state that illegally occupies half of Cyprus, acts as a Trojan horse for fanatical Islam in Europe, denies genocides, and cooperates with Hamas."
INTOLERANCE TOWARDS "BLUE HOMELAND"
In her speech, the Greek MEP also openly targeted Turkey's national strategy for protecting its maritime rights, the "Blue Homeland" doctrine, and its legitimate interests in the Aegean Sea, claiming that Turkey threatened Greece with 'Casus Belli' (cause for war) and violated its airspace to redraw Europe's borders in its favor.
REACTION TO COUNTRIES MAINTAINING COOPERATION WITH TURKEY: "NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU FEED A SNAKE, IT WILL BITE YOU"
Latinopoulou's targets were not limited to Turkey but also included European states such as Spain, France, and Germany, which maintain billions of euros in commercial and military cooperation with Ankara.
The Greek MEP, claiming that Europe is destroying peace for economic interests and arming Turkey with its own hands, said, "They sacrifice everything at the altar of money. But no matter how much you feed and love a snake, when it finds the right moment, it will surely bite you. Stop playing with fire because you will burn us all."
"WE MUST THROW THE ACCESSION KEYS INTO THE SEA, NEVER TO BE FOUND AGAIN"
In the final part of her speech, Latinopoulou thanked the far-right and conservative groups in the EP, particularly French politician Jordan Bardella, known for his staunch anti-Turkey stance, for their support. She concluded her speech with an irrational call, stating, "Turkey should not only stay outside Europe; we must completely lock Europe's door and throw the accession keys into the sea, never to be found again."
