The series and film streaming platform Netflix is preparing to release the series "Famagusta," which depicts Turkish soldiers as invaders in the Greek Cypriot-controlled area of Cyprus. The series, which has been promoted with scandalous footage showing Turkish soldiers forcing Greeks to leave their homes and firing at civilians, has already sparked controversy. AK Party Spokesperson Ömer Çelik stated, "The Cyprus Peace Operation, the heroic Turkish soldiers, peace, and justice cannot be targeted through this series," while President Tatar of the TRNC also expressed his reaction to the series.

TURKISH SOLDIERS PORTRAYED AS INVADERS IN THE FAMAGUSTA SERIES In the series called "Famagusta," which is claimed to depict the events that took place in Cyprus in 1974, the Turkish military is portrayed as the invader. The series, which is said to focus on the "events of 1974 during and after the invasion of Turkey's island," depicts a Turkish soldier causing a young couple to lose their three-month-old baby on the day the Turkish military sets foot on the island. After the young couple is forced to leave their home, they embark on a search to find their baby. The distortion of the 1974 Cyprus Peace Operation, which started on July 20 and ended on August 18, aimed at ending the massacres committed by the Greeks on the island and bringing peace, has sparked outrage among Turkish viewers.
TURKISH SOLDIERS OPEN FIRE ON CIVILIANS IN THE SERIES In the Famagusta series, directed by Andreas Georgiou and starring him, scenes of Turkish soldiers firing at civilians during the Peace Operation are depicted as fictional, while the massacres committed by Greek gangs against Turkish Cypriots are ignored. Georgiou announced on Instagram that the series will be available on Netflix starting from September 20. The Famagusta series, which tells the story of a mother and father searching for their lost baby for 50 years in Famagusta, was previously aired on Mega TV channel in Greece with 24 episodes.
OUTRAGE AGAINST THE SERIES The series that Netflix is preparing to release has received backlash. Ömer Çelik, the spokesperson of the AK Party, shared a post saying, "It is very disturbing that a series that distorts the 1974 Cyprus Peace Operation and promotes the propaganda of the Greek side will be broadcasted on a film platform starting from September 20. We cannot accept the targeting of the heroic Turkish soldiers, peace, and justice through this series. The Cyprus Peace Operation, which brought peace and established justice, cannot be undermined."
REACTION FROM THE PRESIDENT OF THE TRNC, TATAR The President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Ersin Tatar, also reacted to Netflix's announcement that it will broadcast a Greek series that distorts the Cyprus Peace Operation and defames Turkish soldiers. Tatar, who participated in a CNN TÜRK broadcast, made the following statements: "I see that there is a great reaction from both the TRNC and the Republic of Turkey. This pleases me. It is not appropriate for Netflix to be instrumentalized by such a one-sided perspective on such a political issue. The Cyprus issue did not start in 1974. The 1974 Cyprus Peace Operation was primarily a military intervention that saved the Turkish Cypriots from genocide. As Ecevit said, 'we are bringing peace to Cyprus with our intervention.' It is known to the whole world that this peace has been continuing for 50 years in this difficult region."
