"Security is increasing in school transportation, and a price hike is on the way."

According to the new security application of the Ministry of Industry and Technology, it has now become mandatory to install a camera system, emergency button, and vehicle tracking device in school buses. This system, which will operate in connection with the 112 Emergency Call Center and enhance safety, has also brought new demands for price increases to the agenda.

The details regarding the qualifications of companies that will install image recording devices, emergency buttons, and tracking systems for school buses have been revealed.

CAMERA SYSTEM, EMERGENCY BUTTON, TRACKING DEVICE

According to a statement from the Ministry of Industry and Technology, with the amendment made to the "Regulation on the Manufacture, Modification, and Installation of Vehicles" in line with the needs identified by the Ministry of Interior, the technical criteria for camera systems, image recording devices, emergency buttons, and tracking devices to be installed in vehicles have been reorganized.

Details of the application have been determined by the "Series Installation Certification Guidelines" enacted by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE). With the regulation, companies providing device sets that can operate integrated with the 112 Emergency Call Center will be issued a "Device Certificate for Installation Compliance." These companies will be announced on TSE's website.

The installation of these devices can be carried out by all companies that have a "Series Modification Type Approval Certificate" and are engaged in the modification of school service vehicles as of July 14. Additionally, the path will be opened for new companies to obtain series installation authorization, provided they reach at least 10 service points in 7 regions of Turkey.

WILL BE DIRECTLY CONNECTED TO THE EMERGENCY CALL CENTER

From the moment the installation is completed, it will be checked whether the systems are operational. By establishing data communication with the 112 Emergency Call Center through cost-effective SIM cards in the devices, a more secure travel experience focused on people will be ensured.

With the regulation, companies responsible for supplying devices and those carrying out installation activities will be separated. Device sets will be standardized. Quality, traceable, and secure device installations will be made in vehicles. With the device-vehicle matching, location tracking by the Ministry of Interior will be made easier.

The application will start with school buses, and later all public transport vehicles will be included. Device information will be matched with the chassis numbers of the vehicles and can be monitored.

THERE MAY BE AN INCREASE IN SCHOOL SERVICE FEES

This regulation, which prioritizes safety, has also brought new cost items to the sector. Service operators stated that the technological equipment to be added to vehicles incurs significant costs and expressed that they expect a price increase.

"WE WILL REQUEST A 35% INCREASE"

Speaking to Ekol TV regarding the issue, Gökhan Sınar, President of the Service Operators Chamber, stated that they would request a 35% increase and said:

"The camera recording device will be mandatory. It will record the interior and exterior. It can be integrated with the 112 Emergency Call Center. Such a regulation was made to enable rapid intervention in emergencies. Vehicles will also be monitored by the Ministry of Interior. The financial aspect of the system is not yet clear. We will request a 35% increase."
