While the fire created in our hearts by the tragedy in Bolu Kartalkaya, where we lost 78 of our citizens, continues, a striking move has come from the MHP.

A NEW BILL HAS BEEN PRESENTED

MHP Deputy Chairman and Kayseri MP İsmail Özdemir announced that his party has submitted a new bill to the Parliament today regarding fires.

"WE EXPERIENCED IT IN A VERY PAINFUL WAY IN BOLU"

In Özdemir's statement, he said, "We experienced in Bolu, in a very painful way, how critical the response time to fires and other disasters is for keeping our people alive."

"FIRE BRIGADE WILL INTERVENE IN 10 MINUTES"

In this context, we have submitted our bill to the Parliament, which will make it mandatory for fire brigade teams in every province to intervene in fires and other disasters within a maximum of 10 minutes.

"TOURISM FACILITIES WILL BE PERIODICALLY INSPECTED"

Additionally, we are preparing our bill that foresees the periodic inspection of tourism facilities in accordance with the "Regulation on Fire Protection of Buildings." As our esteemed Chairman Devlet Bahçeli stated in our TBMM Group meeting, as the MHP, we will resolutely and thoroughly follow the necessary steps to ensure that such disasters do not happen again and that those responsible, regardless of who they are, receive the necessary punishment.

THE TEXT OF THE BILL HAS ALSO EMERGED

The text of the bill submitted by the MHP includes the following statements: "Fires are disasters that cannot be predicted when they will start, despite all precautions taken. Depending on their size, cause, and form of ignition, fires spread increasingly faster from the 30th second onwards. The first five minutes are crucial for preventing the spread of the fire, while the presence of flammable materials and the type of material that is starting to burn at the fire scene affect the spread rate. If flammable gases are also present in the environment, the spread rate of the fire exceeds normal levels significantly."

"WHEN INTERVENTION WAS DELAYED IN BOLU, CASUALTIES INCREASED"

On January 21, 2025, unfortunately, the intervention of the fire brigade in the fire disaster that occurred in Bolu Kartalkaya took place beyond the anticipated time. Considering the location of the hotel where the fire occurred and its distance from the center, under normal conditions, the fire brigade should have been in the area within a maximum of 30 to 45 minutes, but according to claims, they arrived at the scene after more than an hour. Due to the delay in intervention, unfortunately, the number of casualties has also increased. It is known that if there had been a fire brigade organization closer to such a tourism center or in areas where tourism centers are located, the number of casualties would have been lower or nonexistent.

When looking at examples from many countries in Europe, the USA, and Japan; it is seen that fire brigade teams are positioned to ensure that their response time to fires does not exceed 10 minutes. Thus, potential loss of life and property is minimized to the lowest levels. Under these conditions, it is essential to have fixed or mobile fire stations within a maximum distance of 10 minutes from collective activity areas in our country, along with the necessary fire personnel, vehicles, and equipment needed to combat fires and other disasters; this will shorten the response time under all circumstances and minimize potential loss of life and property to the lowest levels.
