Singer Yusuf Güney was detained for using encouraging expressions about "Ayahuasca Tea" during a broadcast on a digital platform. It was stated that DMT substance is found in Ayahuasca tea, and that DMT is among the banned substances.
The Istanbul Police Department's Narcotic Crimes Division teams detected that Yusuf Güney, who participated in a program broadcast on a digital platform, used encouraging expressions about 'Ayahuasca Tea'.

Investigations revealed that the DMT substance found in 'Ayahuasca Tea' is classified among prohibited substances. In the continuation of the investigations, Güney was detained today.

WHY IS AYAHUASCA TEA MADE?
Ayahuasca is generally prepared by combining the vine known as Banisteriopsis caapi with plants containing DMT (dimethyltryptamine). This mixture creates a psychoactive effect that can lead to mental and perceptual changes. It is used in ceremonies conducted with shamans in local cultures.

Individuals consuming ayahuasca tea may experience intense hallucinations, changes in the perception of time and space, deep emotional experiences, and alterations in consciousness. While some users describe this experience as "spiritual purification," experts warn that uncontrolled use carries serious psychological and physical risks.
Particularly, nausea, vomiting, heart rhythm disturbances, and traumatic psychological effects are among the most common side effects.
CONTAINS PROHIBITED DMT SUBSTANCE
The DMT substance found in ayahuasca is classified as a prohibited substance in many countries. Therefore, the use and possession of the tea fall under criminal offenses in some countries. Experts emphasize that it should not be consumed without medical supervision and in an uncontrolled manner.
HE WAS ALSO DETAINED IN A DRUG INVESTIGATION
Among the names detained in the drug investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, singer Yusuf Güney was also included. After providing blood and hair samples at the Forensic Medicine Institute, Güney's drug test result came back positive.
In his first statement after the result, the singer stated that he did not do anything to be ashamed of, saying, "80% of the country is in a state of addiction. If you can convey even a fraction of what I have experienced, experience it; let me see you. You are still too blind and deaf to see what kind of game you are in."
