At least 16 people lost their lives when a passenger bus overturned in Central Java, Indonesia. Eighteen people who were injured in the accident are being treated in the hospital.

At least 16 people have been reported dead as a result of a passenger bus overturning in Central Java province, Indonesia.

According to information obtained from officials, the bus traveling from the capital Jakarta to the city of Yogyakarta lost control near the Krapyak toll booths in Semarang, Central Java, and crashed into a concrete barrier before tipping over.

Search and rescue official Budiono stated that the intercity bus, carrying 34 passengers, overturned on a winding road, and some passengers were trapped between the bus body and the barrier.

5 OF THE INJURED IN THE ACCIDENT ARE IN CRITICAL CONDITION

Budiono reported that police and rescue teams arrived at the scene about 40 minutes after the accident, noting that 6 passengers died at the scene, while 10 others lost their lives during transfer to the hospital or treatment. He mentioned that 18 people injured in the accident were treated at two nearby hospitals, with 5 of them in critical condition.
