This week, cold and rainy weather will continue to affect the country. Starting tomorrow, temperatures will drop rapidly in three major cities, and after January 9, Friday, snow and mixed rain are expected in many cities, including Istanbul. The meteorology department has issued a yellow code warning for 36 provinces.
It has been reported that the air temperatures, which have risen above seasonal norms due to the effect of the southern winds across Turkey, will drop rapidly starting tomorrow. A significant decrease in temperatures is expected, especially on Friday, January 9, while it is predicted that a cold air wave will enter the country from the Balkans.
TEMPERATURES DROP RAPIDLY ON FRIDAY
It is anticipated that a snowy system will be effective across the country on Friday, January 9. According to meteorological data, snow and mixed rain are expected in more than 50 provinces. While it is predicted that snowfall may be more intense along the Ankara, Konya, and Kayseri line, it has been noted that precipitation may fall as snow in many cities, especially in Istanbul and Ankara.
SNOWFALL EXPECTED IN ISTANBUL
According to meteorological assessments, it is expected that the temperature in Istanbul will drop by about 10 degrees suddenly on Friday. It has been stated that there is a possibility of snowfall, especially in the higher parts of the city, and that precipitation may intensify in some areas due to the cold weather.
WARNING FROM AKOM: STARTING AFTER 10 PM
In a warning issued by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Disaster Affairs and Risk Management Directorate (AKOM), the following statements were made: "Starting from the evening hours (10 PM), the wind is expected to strengthen from the southern directions, and from Thursday morning (8 AM), it is anticipated to blow as a storm, with short bursts of strong storm (60-90 km/h), along with heavy rain and locally strong thunderstorms. It is predicted that temperatures will drop suddenly by 8-10°C to winter values starting Thursday."
"YELLOW" CODE WARNING FOR 36 PROVINCES
A "yellow" code warning has been issued by the General Directorate of Meteorology and the Ministry of Interior for Afyonkarahisar, Ağrı, Ardahan, Artvin, Aydın, Balıkesir, Batman, Bayburt, Bingöl, Bitlis, Bursa, Çanakkale, Denizli, Diyarbakır, Edirne, Erzincan, Erzurum, Giresun, Gümüşhane, Hakkari, Iğdır, İzmir, Kars, Kırklareli, Kütahya, Manisa, Muğla, Muş, Rize, Siirt, Şırnak, Tekirdağ, Trabzon, Tunceli, Uşak, and Van.
STORM WARNING: WILL BE EFFECTIVE IN MARMARA AND AEGEAN
On the other hand, it has been reported that a storm is expected from the south and west directions in the Aegean coast, gradually affecting the west of Marmara and the Inner Aegean. It was emphasized that there may be locally strong storms in the southwestern Marmara and the northern coasts of the Aegean, and that citizens should be cautious and prepared for adverse conditions.

According to the forecasts made by the General Directorate of Meteorology: It is expected that the general weather across our country will be partly and very cloudy, with rain and showers in Marmara, Aegean, the western Mediterranean, the south and west of Central Anatolia, the western Black Sea, and the surroundings of Kastamonu and Mersin. It is expected that the precipitation will be locally strong in the regions of Edirne and Kırklareli, as well as around the Edremit Gulf. In the inner and eastern regions, frost and freezing, along with fog and local mist, are expected. There is a risk of avalanche in the high sloped areas with a thick snow cover in the inner parts of the Eastern Black Sea and the eastern part of Eastern Anatolia.

No significant changes are expected. It is predicted that temperatures will continue to be below seasonal norms in Southeastern Anatolia and above seasonal norms in other places.

It is expected that the wind will generally blow from the south, with light to moderate strength from the north in the southeastern parts of the country, and strong from the south in Marmara and Aegean, with occasional short bursts of storm (40-70 km/h).

Since the precipitation is expected to be locally strong in the regions of Edirne and Kırklareli, it is necessary to be cautious and prepared for possible adverse conditions.
