A decision that sent shockwaves through English football has been made. Mykhaylo Mudryk, whom Chelsea added to its squad for a high fee, faces a heavy penalty due to a doping violation.
FA ANNOUNCES DECISION
The English Football Association (FA) handed the Ukrainian footballer a 4-year ban from football for violating doping rules. Mudryk's tests reportedly showed a positive result for a performance-enhancing substance that increases oxygen flow in the blood.
PROCESS STARTED IN DECEMBER 2024
Mudryk was provisionally suspended from football in December 2024. During this period, he was unable to play in matches or train with the team. The final decision was made for the star player, who was officially charged in June 2025.
APPLIED TO CAS
Following the heavy penalty, it was learned that Mudryk took the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). The Ukrainian footballer was stated to have initiated legal proceedings to seek a reduction in the ban.
HIS PROCESS AT CHELSEA DREW ATTENTION
Mudryk last played and scored a goal on November 28 against Heidenheim, after which he could not take to the field. The club had long explained the player's absence as due to "illness." He was not included in the squad after the match against Aston Villa on December 1.
70 MILLION EURO INVESTMENT
Chelsea had paid 70 million euros in transfer fees and bonuses to Shakhtar Donetsk for the young star. This development was regarded as a major disappointment for the club.
