ACQUITTAL FOR TWO DEFENDANTS IN THE MINGUZZI CASE
In Kadıköy, on January 24, 2025, the case regarding the stabbing murder of 15-year-old Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi at the market was concluded with 4 defendants being tried. The court sentenced the detained defendants B.B. and U.B. to 24 years in prison for 'intentional murder of a child', while acquitting 2 other defendants.
NEW STATEMENT FROM THE PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE
A new statement has come from the Istanbul Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, which objected to the acquittal decision. The statement indicated that the acquittal decisions were contrary to the opinion and that an appeal would be made.
The statement included the following expressions: "As a result of the investigation conducted regarding the murder of Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi due to a knife attack in the Tuesday market in Kadıköy District of Istanbul Province on 24.01.2025, our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has conducted a thorough investigation against the Juvenile Offenders (B. B. and U. B.) as joint perpetrators for the crime of intentional murder of a child; and against the Juvenile Offenders (A.Ö. and M. A. D.) for aiding the crime of intentional murder of a child, and an indictment has been prepared, leading to a public case being opened at the Istanbul Anatolian 2nd Juvenile Heavy Criminal Court.
PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE WILL FILE AN APPEAL
In the hearing held on 21/10/2025, the court decided to punish the Juvenile Offenders (B. B. and U. B.) for the crime of intentional murder of a child with 24 years of imprisonment in accordance with Article 37/1 of the Turkish Penal Code, and to continue their detention, while the other Juvenile Offenders (A. Ö. and M. A. D.) were acquitted and released separately.
As stated in our previous press release, regarding the issues that were contrary to the opinion; an urgent legal appeal will be made by our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office before the expiration of the two-week maximum appeal period specified in Article 273/1 of the Criminal Procedure Code, starting from the date the court ruling regarding the acquittal and release of the Juvenile Offenders (A. Ö. and M. A. D.) was notified along with the reasoning. We respectfully announce to the public."
