At Munich Airport in Germany, a 48-hour warning strike by public sector and ground services personnel on February 27 and 28 is expected to cause significant disruptions; the cancellation of 1,600 flights to the airport is on the agenda.

It is expected that the 48-hour warning strikes by public sector and ground handling staff at Munich Airport in Germany will cause significant disruptions on February 27 and 28.

In a statement from Munich Airport, it was reminded that the United Services Union (Ver.di) has called on employees of various companies at the airport to go on strike for 2 days on February 27 and 28.

MORE THAN 1600 FLIGHTS MAY BE CANCELLED

The statement indicated that the strikes are expected to significantly affect transportation operations, and passengers are advised to check their flight status with airlines before arriving at the airport.

Munich Airport serves as one of the main hubs for Lufthansa, one of Europe's largest airlines. It is expected that a large portion of the more than 1600 flights scheduled during the strike dates will be cancelled by the airlines.

STRIKE DECISION HAS BEEN MADE

The German union Ver.di had previously made the decision to strike after the second round of negotiations for "salary improvements" for public sector employees and ground handling staff at Germany's second-largest airport ended without an agreement.

Ver.di aims to improve the wages paid to public and ground handling staff at the airport with this strike initiative.

The union is demanding an 8% increase in the wages of these employees. Additionally, a minimum of 350 euros in extra allowances per month and 3 additional days of leave are among the union's demands. Employers argue that the union's demands would put them in a difficult financial situation, citing rising interest rates and high debt levels.
