Haluk Levent, who was detained within the scope of the investigation into the Ahbap Association, said in his statement to the prosecutor's office: 'The events we experienced during the earthquake period dragged me into an inextricable situation. I already have a dirty weakness for trading on the stock market. The economic costs that the first two years of the earthquake brought to me caused me to trade more on the stock market and take more risks. I always borrowed these moneys.'
Haluk Levent, founder of the Ahbap Association, gave a statement as part of an investigation led by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, making striking remarks regarding financial transactions, association accounts, and his personal financial activities.
"I INCURRED A HIGH AMOUNT OF DEBT"
"I used Ahbap checks and promissory notes as collateral in some places," said Levent. "I incurred a high amount of debt. You can call it irregularity, but you cannot call it corruption. I was on track to correct everything that appears irregular by recording it in Ahbap's books by the end of this year, but this was not allowed. From now on, any questions you ask or say will have no meaning beyond the explanations I will provide below."
"I HAVE A DIRTY WEAKNESS"
Stating in his statement that he has a weakness for the stock market, Levent said, "So why did these checks and promissory notes start being issued? In the interrogation record, the result cannot be explained without the reason. Everything grew one after another. The events we experienced during the earthquake period dragged me into an inextricable situation. I already have a dirty weakness for trading in the stock market. The economic costs brought to me by the first two years of the earthquake caused me to trade more in the stock market and take more risks. I always borrowed this money. I never took money from the Ahbap Association to gamble. If they claim such a thing, the Chief Inspectors of the Ministry of Interior should resign first. Because in 2023, 2024, and 2025, all activity reports of the Ahbap Association, which our citizens supported with their hard-earned money and our little children's allowances, were audited and no negativity was found. This was communicated not by me but by the reports of the Ministry of Interior inspectors. These reports are available at the relevant institution and can be clearly seen every year on the official social media of the Ahbap Association. They can check this right now."
DETAILS OF 80 MILLION TL IN REAL ESTATE
In his statement, Levent also mentioned a transfer of assets to the association, stating that he wanted to transfer 20 real estate properties worth 80 million TL to the Ahbap Association, but the process could not be completed due to issues in the title deed procedures. Haluk Levent claimed, "If the operation had occurred after these transactions were completed, such an investigation would not have taken place."
