MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli answered journalists' questions after his party's TBMM Group Meeting. Bahçeli was asked a question about private school teachers who were protesting in Ankara. The MHP leader stated that he supports the teachers, saying, "We stand with them, you stand with them too."
Bahçeli's statement came at a time when private sector teachers, who have recently organized various protests in Ankara to voice their demands, are in the spotlight.
WHAT ARE THE TEACHERS' DEMANDS?
The Private Sector Teachers' Union and teachers have long been voicing demands for the reintroduction of a base salary system, improvement of working conditions, increased job security, and strengthening of personal rights.
Teachers argue that they are employed in private educational institutions with low wages and that the gap in rights between the public and private sectors should be reduced.
PROTESTS ORGANIZED IN ANKARA
In recent weeks, teachers have made statements in front of the Ministry of National Education and at various points in Ankara to announce their demands to the public. Teacher unions have stated that they will continue their protests if the promises made are not fulfilled. The Private Sector Teachers' Union and various teacher platforms demand regulations regarding base salary and personal rights.
Meanwhile, following security issues in the education field and incidents of violence against teachers, large-scale teacher protests were organized in Ankara, where educators sought to march to the Ministry of National Education.
SUPPORT MESSAGE DRAWS ATTENTION
Bahçeli's words regarding the teachers' protest, "We stand with them," have brought the teachers' demands back to the public agenda.
