A striking allegation has emerged regarding Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Akın concerning the decoration works carried out before the 2024 Republic Day. According to the claim, the tender process was initiated after the work was completed, and the contract was signed months later. It has been learned that the Ministry of Interior has granted permission for an investigation into the matter.
It has been claimed that an investigation permit was granted regarding Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Akın due to a tender conducted in 2024. The investigation is alleged to be related to decorative ornamentation and lighting works carried out as part of the Republic Day celebrations.
According to the claim, decorative ornamentation, arch installation, and special lighting works on Milli Kuvvetler Avenue in Balıkesir were completed on October 28, 2024. However, it is alleged that the tender for the said work was held on December 31, 2024, and the contract was signed on January 15, 2025.
ALLEGATION: "TENDER WAS CONDUCTED AFTER THE WORK WAS COMPLETED"
According to a report by Muharrem Doğantez in Sabah, allegations of irregularities emerged regarding the organization, which was said to have been carried out at a cost of approximately 2 million TL. It was learned that AK Party Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality Council Member and Audit Commission Member Attorney Birol Şahin brought the issue to the Ministry of Interior.
It was stated that Şahin's application included allegations that the public procurement processes were conducted in violation of regulations, and official tender procedures were completed after the work was finished.
ATTENTION TURNS TO THE INVESTIGATION PROCESS
While it was claimed that the Ministry of Interior granted an investigation permit regarding the allegations, it was indicated that tender documents and payment processes at the municipality would be examined as part of the process.
No official statement has yet been made by Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality regarding the issue.
