İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who was detained as part of a terrorism and corruption investigation, was transferred to Çağlayan Courthouse along with 91 suspects after completing his statement procedures at the police station.

SCUFFLE WITH POLICE IN FRONT OF THE COURTHOUSE

Intense security measures were taken in front of Çağlayan Courthouse; a scuffle occurred between lawyers and police. A group of lawyers attempting to enter the courthouse was surrounded by police. The lawyers were not allowed to pass into the courthouse.

TENSION RISES IN THE CORRIDOR

Tension also rose on the floor where İmamoğlu was to give his statement at the courthouse. CHP deputies reacted to the measures taken by security personnel. It was seen that one deputy said, "What do we need shields for, friends? We can throw them off if necessary."

In a statement made by CHP Şanlıurfa Deputy Mahmut Tanal at the courthouse, he said, "Prosecutors and judges cannot make decisions because they are afraid of you. I am the Deputy of Şanlıurfa. I am at the zero point of the border. The border there is like a sieve. Terrorists come and go. Send the special forces here to the borders. Precautions not taken against one terrorist are being taken inside and outside the courthouse. This is disproportionate. A crime is being committed."

TENSION ARISES IN SARAÇHANE

Meanwhile, the police did not allow groups that gathered in Saraçhane and wanted to march to Taksim in response to the CHP's call. The police intervened with tear gas and plastic bullets against those who wanted to march to Taksim.

WHAT HAD HAPPENED?

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation against Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and 99 suspects for the crimes of "being a leader of a criminal organization," "being a member of a criminal organization," "extortion," "bribery," "qualified fraud," "illegally obtaining personal data," and "interfering with a tender." İmamoğlu was detained as part of these investigations.

After the detention decision, protests were held in many cities, and tense moments occurred between the police and demonstrators from time to time.
