During the discussions on the presidential budget, tensions arose between CHP members and Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz. In response to a CHP lawmaker's remark, "He should remember the days when he ate on the floor; there is waste in the Palace," Yılmaz reacted by saying, "This is not a place for show."
The tension rose during the discussions of the Presidential 2026 budget in the TBMM Planning and Budget Commission. CHP deputies directed criticisms towards both the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality indictment and the Presidential budget.
"THEY ARE TRYING TO CLOSE CHP"
CHP Malatya Deputy Veli Ağbaba reacted to the indictment prepared by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, stating, "I am reporting myself from here. I have been a member of this organization since 1993. I am also reporting our Party Assembly members and our deputies. As you can see, they are trying to close CHP with a rag-like indictment," he said. Ağbaba claimed that the indictment carried political motives and suggested that preparations were being made for the closure of CHP.
"THIS IS NOT A SHOW PLACE"
Another tension in the commission arose over the budget of the Presidential Complex. A CHP deputy reacted to the Complex budget by saying, "He should remember the days he ate at ground tables. There is waste and expense at palace tables. The public is suffering." Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz responded to these remarks by saying, "This is not a show place."
"BUDGET CONSISTS OF PRIORITIES, NOT NUMBERS"
CHP Sakarya Deputy Ayça Taşkent also stated in a social media post that the budget allocated for the Complex is "The budget consists not only of numbers but of priorities. The huge resources allocated to the palace narrow the share that should be allocated to the basic needs of the people. This country's budget is not one person's budget, but the budget of the people."
