A carbon dioxide cylinder exploded in the engine room of a ship undergoing renovation at a shipyard in Tuzla. In the tragic accident, one worker lost his life and four workers were injured. The governor's office announced that an investigation has been initiated regarding the incident.
At the Torlak Shipyard located on Güzin Street in the Aydıntepe neighborhood of Tuzla district in Istanbul, a carbon dioxide cylinder exploded in the engine room of a ship undergoing repairs. Upon notification, a large number of fire, police, health, and UMKE teams were dispatched to the scene.
1 WORKER LOST HIS LIFE, 4 WORKERS INJURED
In the explosion, 1 worker lost his life, and 4 workers were injured. The deceased worker was taken to a hospital in Tuzla. While police and occupational safety teams continued their investigations at the scene after the explosion, the Anadolu Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation into the incident.
GOVERNORATE: INVESTIGATION INITIATED
In a written statement from the Istanbul Governor's Office regarding the explosion, it was stated, "On Wednesday, October 15, around 14:00, a carbon dioxide cylinder exploded during ship maintenance works at a private shipyard located in Tuzla-Aydıntepe neighborhood. After the explosion, a large number of health, security, fire, and AFAD teams were dispatched to the scene. In the initial examination conducted at the scene, it was determined that 1 worker lost his life and 4 workers were injured as a result of the explosion. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals by health teams for treatment, and they are not in life-threatening condition. An investigation has been initiated regarding the incident."
