The legendary voice of Turkish folk music, Bedia Akartürk, was present not only with her costumes but also with her very presence at the fashion show prepared in memory of her 68 years of artistic life. The 84-year-old artist wore her crown and stepped onto the runway, paying homage to the past with her folk songs.
One of the living legends of Turkish Folk Music, Bedia Akartürk, celebrated her 68th year in art with a meaningful event held in her hometown, Ödemiş district of İzmir. The costumes the artist wore on stage over the years were brought back to life with a special fashion show.
20 LEGENDARY OUTFITS REDESIGNED
As part of the "Leave a Mark for Tomorrow" project led by the Ödemiş District Governorship, master instructors working at the Ödemiş Public Education Center redesigned 20 of Akartürk's stage costumes while staying true to their original form. The designs, which prominently featured traditional motifs and handcrafted elements, bridged the past and the present.
FASHION SHOW IN THE GARDEN, TEARS ON STAGE
The prepared outfits were showcased in an open-air fashion show with the participation of 10 models. At the end of the event, Bedia Akartürk took the stage wearing a crown and performed a folk song. The artist, experiencing emotional moments, couldn't hold back her tears.
Akartürk shared her feelings with the words, "Seeing my costumes again took me back years. Celebrating my 68th year in art in the land where I was born is an indescribable pride."
A PLAQUE FROM THE DISTRICT GOVERNOR, APPLAUSE FROM İZMİR
The Ödemiş District Governor Fatih Aksoy, who attended the event, did not leave the artist alone on this meaningful day. Aksoy presented a plaque and a gift to Bedia Akartürk, thanking her for the value she has added to Turkish folk music.
