Nevzat Çelik, the author of the poem 'Şafak Türküsü' that made President Erdoğan cry, has been detained due to his social media post about the Izmir fires. Çelik, who expressed his reaction to this situation through his social media account, stated, "Should we not see, hear, or speak? Should we not criticize at all? What is expected of us? Should we just comb our hair while the neighborhood is burning? Then, how can we remain human? Hoping to see better days."
The poet Nevzat Çelik was detained on the grounds of his social media post about the forest fire in Izmir. After giving his statement, Çelik was later released.
"SHOULD WE NOT CRITICIZE, WHAT IS WANTED"
Çelik, who stated that he was watching the Beşiktaş match when the door was forcefully knocked and he was detained, said in his social media post, "Last night. Time: 21.45... I had set up my stall to watch the Beşiktaş-Antalya match. The referee had put the whistle in his mouth when... The door was forcefully knocked. They came with an arrest warrant. I must admit, the police officers were very polite. Yes, my name was Nevzat Çelik. I was invited to the police station. I said, if you had called, I would have come... Maybe they were also called to duty in the middle of the night... The reason: my post on August 16th, 'My dear #izmirisburning. It's not infidel Izmir, it's #Turkeyisburning!' My statement was taken. Should we not see, hear, speak? Should we not criticize at all? What is wanted? Should we just comb our hair while the neighborhood is burning? Then, how can we remain human? Hoping to see better days" he said.
HE WROTE THE POEM THAT MADE ERDOĞAN CRY
Nevzat Çelik is the author of the poem 'Şafak Türküsü' sung by Ahmet Kaya... President Erdoğan, in his speech about Necdet Adalı, who was hanged during the September 12th coup period, said, "The famous poem written by poet Nevzat Çelik for Necdet Adalı beautifully depicts this untimely death. It is truly emotional. Don't search for me here, mother, don't ask for my name at the door, don't pluck your hair like fallen stars, I miss death, mother...." and then he couldn't hold back his tears.
SO WAS THAT SONG WRITTEN FOR NECDET ADALI?
In his statement regarding this question, Nevzat Çelik said the following: "It is not a poem written in reference to Necdet Adalı. It is a poem that unfortunately, a wrong information on the internet has been multiplied in the hands of the Prime Minister. It is a poem that deals with the concept of execution, addressing the mothers who became fighters, leaving their homes, kitchens, and fields, while their children were inside during the September 12th period. It is also dedicated to these mothers. It is not a poem written specifically for an individual. As you know, unfortunately, information is now obtained from the internet, they take the easy way out and do not verify whether the information there is correct or not. If they had picked up a book and looked, they would see that there is no reference to Necdet Adalı. There are many ways to interpret this, ultimately, everyone can read the poem as they wish. But we see how much the poem is instrumentalized for a purpose."
