The fires that started on January 7 in Los Angeles, California, continue to rage in different areas. The fires, described as "the most destructive fire in the country's history," are still being fought. Many homes of Turkish and foreign celebrities have been reduced to ashes amid the flames that have been uncontrollable for days due to the intensity of the wind. In recent days, conspiracy theories circulating on social media regarding the fire have drawn attention. "FIRE, SMOKE, PANIC, THERE IS NO SUCH SITUATION"Famous singer Gökhan Özen's post from the terrace of his home in Los Angeles stirred up controversy. In the footage he recorded, the singer showed the city and stated that there was no fire in the area. In the video he recorded, Özen said, "As of today, there is nothing to panic about here; as far as I understand, the old videos encountered on social media are causing panic." Showing the area where the Hollywood sign is located, Özen claimed that "There is no fire, smoke, panic, or fire brigade; such a situation does not exist," asserting that the fire is over. DID THE HOLLYWOOD SIGN BURN?Speaking to the American newspaper Wall Street Journal (WSJ), fire department spokesperson Scott stated, "On one hand, we are fighting the most destructive natural disaster in Los Angeles history, and on the other hand, we need people and time to find and debunk the rumors on social media. This situation prevents us from doing more important work." Scott also stated that claims about inviting individuals from the public to participate in firefighting efforts do not reflect the truth, emphasizing that false news could endanger many lives. WSJ also reported that a photo showing the Hollywood sign on fire was produced using artificial intelligence tools. A fake account using Billie Eilish's name misled many people by sharing an AI-generated photo showing the Hollywood sign with an extra "L" letter on fire. TURKISH CELEBRITIES' HOMES HAVE ALSO BURNEDThe home of the couple Beren Saat and Kenan Doğulu, which was in the fire zone, was turned to ashes. Doğulu stated, "Memories, my studio, photos, videos, paintings, and my collection... Everything is gone. The whole neighborhood has been devastated. Our friends have become homeless." Turabi Çamkıran, who gained fame from the Survivor competition, also mentioned that his house in Los Angeles burned down, leaving only his backpack behind. THE DEATH TOLL HAS RISE TO 24The number of fatalities in the uncontrollable fires has risen to 24. The Los Angeles coroner's office published a list of casualties without providing the identities of the deceased. California Governor Gavin Newsom stated that he would suspend a series of environmental laws to allow reconstruction in the southern regions of the state devastated by the wildfires. He mentioned that more than 50 teams have been assigned to assess the damage and that they hope to complete the assessment process within two weeks.
