The sudden heavy rain and hailstorm in Kırşehir paralyzed life in the city; streets turned into lakes, and floodwaters inundated many homes and workplaces. In the city, where 56.4 kilograms of precipitation fell per square meter in the last 24 hours, 260 reports of flooding were received, while 22 stranded citizens were rescued through the intense efforts of rescue teams. Under the coordination of the governor's office, all municipal and AFAD teams were dispatched to the disaster area.
A sudden heavy downpour and hailstorm that intensified towards the evening in Kırşehir virtually paralyzed the city center. Due to the flash floods and inundations following the intense rainfall, numerous workplaces, houses, and basements were submerged, while 22 citizens who were trapped were rescued by teams. Governor Murat Sefa Demiryürek announced that 56.4 kilograms of precipitation per square meter fell in the last 24 hours.
STREETS TURNED INTO LAKES, VEHICLES SUBMERGED
The sudden downpour in the city quickly turned into a flood. Due to Ankara Street being completely covered with water, traffic came to a standstill, and drivers had great difficulty moving on the roads. At the Kırşehir Training and Research Hospital Intersection, as well as on Terme and Lise streets, rising floodwaters swallowed parked vehicles and roadside businesses. Citizens and shop owners made intense efforts to drain the muddy water that flowed into their shops using their own means.
Serkan Erel, a florist on Terme Street, stated that they experience the same hardship every year, saying, "There are places that need to be addressed as a priority, and this area is one of them. We endure this ordeal every year," addressing the authorities.
GOVERNOR DEMİRYÜREK AND PROTOCOL CONDUCTED ON-SITE INSPECTIONS
Immediately after the disaster, Kırşehir Governor Murat Sefa Demiryürek, along with Provincial Police Director Mesut Görücü, Provincial Gendarmerie Commander Colonel Ahmet Yıldırım, and Provincial AFAD Director Uğur Olgun, went to the Kırşehir Training and Research Hospital Intersection, where the worst flooding occurred. Governor Demiryürek conveyed his "get well soon" wishes to the affected shop owners and citizens and received real-time information from department heads about the ongoing evacuation and cleaning efforts.
260 REPORTS RECEIVED, 22 CITIZENS TRAPPED
Speaking to journalists after the inspections, Governor Murat Sefa Demiryürek shared the toll of the rainfall. Stating that areas with low elevation in the city center were particularly affected, Demiryürek said:
"Starting from 5:00 PM today, and within the last 24 hours, 56.4 kilograms of precipitation per square meter fell across our province. The rainfall caused flooding in low-elevation areas. So far, a total of 260 reports of floods and inundations have been received in the city center, and most of them have been responded to. Twenty-two of our citizens applied because they were trapped, and our teams safely rescued them from their locations."
ALL INSTITUTIONS DEPLOYED TO DISASTER AREA
Governor Demiryürek stated that the crisis was opened under the coordination of the governorship and emphasized that full-time work was being carried out in the field. Providing information about the response teams, the Governor said, "We are working non-stop in the flood areas with AFAD, the Special Provincial Administration, Kırşehir Municipality, and the municipalities of Boztepe, Mucur, and Kaman, along with police and gendarmerie teams. Additionally, the equipment and machinery of our DSI Regional Directorate are continuing necessary interventions in the field," and thanked all personnel working devotedly.
