A funeral ceremony for a gang member in the city of Trairi, northern Brazil, was attacked by members of a rival gang. The deceased and about 10 gang members had been spotted by the police while ambushing the rival group, and in the ensuing clash, three gang members were killed. Four individuals who stormed the funeral threatened those in attendance before setting the coffin on fire.

According to local police sources, the deceased had died the previous day in an armed clash with the police. The deceased and about 10 gang members were spotted by the police while preparing to ambush a rival group, and in the ensuing clash, three gang members were killed.
Four individuals who stormed the funeral threatened those attending before setting the coffin on fire. During the fire, one of the attackers was injured in the face and was taken to the hospital. The police arrested this 18-year-old suspect and three other suspects on the same day.
A spokesperson for the security forces stated, "Gang violence is increasingly rising in the area. Such incidents create great fear in the community."
So far, only the 18-year-old youth has been formally charged with "disrespecting a corpse," "arson," "involvement in organized crime," and "encouraging children to commit crimes." The investigation into the other suspects is ongoing.
The increasing violence due to gang wars in the region in recent months is worrying the local population. Authorities have announced that additional measures have been taken to ensure security in the area.
