In the district of Kemalpaşa in Izmir, 9 people were injured, 2 of them seriously, when branches from a centuries-old plane tree fell on the people sitting in the coffeehouse.

CENTURIES-OLD PLANE TREE HOSPITALIZED 9 PEOPLE

In Kemalpaşa district, at around 21:00, the branches of a 121-year-old plane tree located in the square known as the old market broke off. In the incident, 9 people sitting in the coffeehouse under the plane tree were injured, 2 of them seriously. Upon notification of the situation, fire brigade, health, and police teams were dispatched to the scene.

2 PEOPLE SERIOUSLY INJURED

Health teams that arrived at the scene intervened in the injured. 2 seriously injured were taken to Ege University Faculty of Medicine Hospital by ambulance, while 7 lightly injured were taken to Kemalpaşa Devler Hospital. Meanwhile, the branches that fell from the centuries-old plane tree were removed from the scene after the intervention of the municipality teams.

AN ANCIENT TREE IDENTIFIED BY THE MINISTRY

Meanwhile, it was reported that the tree that caused 9 people, 2 of them seriously, to be injured was a type of 'Eastern Plane Tree' and was 121 years old. It was reported that the centuries-old plane tree located in Kemalpaşa district was designated as a monument tree by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change.
