In Gaziantep, during inspections conducted by the municipal police teams affiliated with the Şehitkamil Municipality, it was revealed that the business involved was Elmuhur Gıda, where spoiled tomato paste and jam, as well as expired food products, were seized. The establishment, which became a topic of discussion in Turkey due to its nauseating images, has been shut down.
According to a statement made by Şehitkamil Municipality, Mayor Umut Yılmaz participated in an inspection conducted by the District Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry and the municipal police at a business.
80 TONS OF SPOILED AND EXPIRED PRODUCTS DETECTED
In this context, during the inspection at a business in Aktoprak Neighborhood, 200 kilograms of spoiled jam in 404 barrels, 20 kilograms of tomato paste in 60 buckets, and 1098 kilograms and 350 grams of spoiled bean canned goods in jars were seized.
LABELING ITSELF
It was also determined that the business owner was labeling the products with their own system to redefine the expiration dates and offer them for sale.
BUSINESS CLOSED
In the statement, Şehitkamil Mayor Umut Yılmaz mentioned that the business has been sealed and a closure penalty will be applied.
Yılmaz emphasized that they would also file a criminal complaint against the business owner, stating, "It is our responsibility to ensure that every product that comes to our citizens' tables is safe. We will not turn a blind eye to any person or business that plays with public health. Such initiatives are both immoral and criminal. We will not allow anyone in Şehitkamil to risk the health of our citizens."
OPERATING UNDER THE NAME ELMUHUR FOOD
Umut Yılmaz, the Mayor of Şehitkamil, who visited the business operating under the name Elmuhur Food and conducted the inspection, was shocked by the scene he encountered. Reacting to the business owner, Yılmaz said, "Why did you keep the spoiled jam? Would I let people like you dirty this country? Gaziantep is a city famous for its gastronomy, and you are polluting it. We caught 80 tons outside, 4 trucks of goods. I will personally file a complaint and go to court. People like you shouldn't even sell gum in this country. You deemed these things worthy of those children, and I won't even leave you to God."
"WE COULDN'T BELIEVE OUR EYES"
Mayor Yılmaz also shared the footage of the inspection on his social media account. In his statement, he emphasized that no business threatening food safety would be tolerated, using the following expressions: "No one can betray the public's table in Şehitkamil... We encountered such audacity during our inspections that we couldn't believe our eyes. Spoiled tomato pastes, moldy jams, expired products... In unhealthy, unsanitary environments. We will not allow anyone to set their sights on the bread earned by the sweat of this nation or the health of our children. Every bite that our citizens safely place on their tables is our honor. With this awareness, our inspections will continue unabated. We thank everyone who upholds health, honesty, and halal earnings. We are here, standing firm for the health of our people."
