INDICTMENT REGARDING FERDI ZEYREK'S DEATH IS READY
In the investigation conducted by the Manisa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, 19 people were processed, including Ferdi Zeyrek's wife Nurcan Zeyrek and daughter Nehir Zeyrek as complainants, and an investigation permit was requested for M.S. and Ö.T., who are employees of Yunusemre Municipality.
According to the evidence, statements, and expert reports collected during the investigation process, an indictment was prepared against 10 individuals determined to be primarily and secondarily at fault. The indictment submitted to the Manisa 5th Heavy Penal Court stated that Nurcan Zeyrek was also injured while trying to save her husband during the incident in which Zeyrek lost his life.
REQUEST FOR UP TO 15 YEARS OF IMPRISONMENT FOR 10 SUSPECTS
The detained suspects include N.B., who installed the electrical and motor systems of the pool, and H.İ., who repaired the pool motor when it broke down, as well as the non-detained suspects: site employee A.E., Y.Ö., who is responsible for pool maintenance and occasionally deals with problems in the machine room, H.A., the owner of the motor rewinding company, M.E., an employee of the electricity distribution company, and the supervising engineers R.A, H.Ş., and M.Ç. from the building inspection company, and M.G., a representative of the contracting company. They are all requested to be sentenced to imprisonment for 2 to 15 years for causing the death of one person and the injury of another due to negligence. A decision of non-prosecution was made for 9 individuals in the investigation.
WHAT HAPPENED?
On the evening of June 6, while trying to check the malfunction in the machine room of the pool at his home in the Yunusemre district, the then Mayor of Manisa Metropolitan Municipality, Ferdi Zeyrek, was electrocuted and died on June 9 at Manisa Celal Bayar University Hafsa Sultan Hospital, where he was taken in critical condition.
Y.Ö., who was responsible for the maintenance of the pool, and A.S., who was determined not to have reported the leakage current situation, were detained, and the two suspects were released on judicial control conditions on June 11.
As part of the investigation, on June 14, Z.M., who was alleged to have constructed the energy room in the house not in accordance with the standards regarding its distance to the pool, M.Y.P., who was evaluated to have participated in the construction of the pool, N.B., who was alleged to have designed and installed the motor and electrical components in the pool energy room contrary to standards, and H.İ., who was accused of performing incorrect and faulty installations, were detained.
Among the suspects sent to the courthouse, Z.M., N.B., and H.İ. were arrested on charges of causing death by negligence, while M.Y.P. was released after the prosecutor's procedures.
In the expert report, Z.M., who was not found at fault and was arrested due to having carried out the construction work of the pool, was released from prison on September 27 after his procedures.
