Geologist Prof. Dr. Naci Görür made a notable warning regarding the consecutive earthquakes that occurred in the Sındırgı district of Balıkesir. He stated that the region is undergoing rifting, which is causing the crust to thin and magma to rise. "Caution is necessary," he said.
After the 4.9 magnitude earthquake that occurred yesterday in the Sındırgı district of Balıkesir, the region continued to shake during the night hours. According to the data from the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), following the tremor that caused panic in the area, another aftershock of 4.3 magnitude was experienced yesterday at 23:23. The depth of this tremor was determined to be 4.91 kilometers.
WARNING FROM NACİ GÖRÜR: CAUTION IS NECESSARY
Sharing his comments on the consecutive earthquakes in Sındırgı, Geoscientist Prof. Dr. Naci Görür warned, "Caution is necessary."
Görür stated in a post on his social media account: "The Western Anatolia, where Sındırgı is located, is being stretched in the N-S direction due to westward escape and is rifting. Rifting causes crust thinning and magma rise. This is what is happening in Sındırgı today. Caution is necessary. The only solution is to make the region an EARTHQUAKE RESILIENT CITY."
