The BTK has taken action against advertisement-related searches and SMS messages.

According to the study prepared by the Information Technologies and Communications Authority, which will be valid from January 1, 2025, telecom operators, dealers, and agents will only be able to make advertising calls to their own subscribers.

With this change, efforts will be made to prevent marketing conducted via phone, such as "no home without internet."

SOLUTION FOR UNWANTED SMS IS ALSO COMING

The most notable topic of the newly prepared draft will be related to unwanted SMS messages. In particular, SMS messages sent by illegal betting sites and scammers that contain URL links will not reach citizens' phones.

While the BTK aims to block messages originating from abroad, similar content messages sent from Turkey are excluded from this scope.

The authority imposes high monetary fines from time to time on businesses that are found to have non-compliant practices with the regulations by thoroughly examining the compliance of operators with their sub-dealership and agency arrangements regarding "unwanted calls," which are known to disturb citizens and involve sales and marketing calls that contact citizens without permission.
