The Precious Metal Tracking System (PMTS), which is planned to be implemented in April, aims to prevent unregistered activities in the jewelry sector. With the new application, all gold, from grams to quarters, will be banderole-marked, and purchases will be made through credit cards and IBANs via banks instead of cash. Thanks to the system, the source of the gold and which company it has passed through can be tracked.

While health risks and the fight against fraud remain on the agenda, a new step is being taken to eliminate unregistered activities in the jewelry sector. Burak Yakın, President of the Jewelry Exporters Association, announced that the Precious Metal Tracking System (KMTS), prepared by the General Directorate of the Mint and Stamp Printing House, will be launched in April. Yakın stated that with the system, all products from gram gold to quarter gold will be banderole-marked, cash transactions in jewelry stores will come to an end, and transactions will be conducted through banks.

THE NEW ERA STARTS IN APRIL

According to the information provided by Burak Yakın, a tracking mechanism will be established in gold trade with the KMTS developed by the Mint under the Ministry of Treasury and Finance. Thanks to the number on the banderole, the source of the gold, the entry process into the country, and the company can be tracked through the system. The application will also be valid for one gram of gold, and gold in kilogram quantities will be recorded in the same way.

CASH TRANSACTIONS IN JEWELRY STORES ARE ENDING

According to a report by Aysel Alp from Hürriyet; it is expected that cash buying and selling in jewelry stores will end with the implementation of the KMTS. Yakın stated, "You will not be able to buy bracelets with cash from the jeweler. Transactions will be made with credit cards and IBAN," indicating that all transactions will be conducted entirely through banks.

EVERY TRANSACTION WILL BE INVOICED

Another important aspect of the system is the invoice requirement. Yakın noted that the transactions of citizens selling gold to jewelers will also be recorded, stating that payments and collections will be made through banks. While a gradual transition is planned in this process, it was emphasized that the goal is to reduce unregistered activities and fraud.

DECLARATION INQUIRY FOR THOSE WHO EXCHANGE GOLD TO BUY A HOUSE

Burak Yakın stated that the system will also contribute to the fight against money laundering. According to Yakın, in cases where large amounts are deposited into the bank by exchanging gold, a declaration form regarding the source of the money will be requested. It was conveyed that amounts whose sources cannot be documented may not be accepted by banks, and it was expressed that the MASAK audit will become more decisive in this process.
