A group of children in Karşıyaka neighborhood of Altınordu district staged a protest for the construction of a playground in the neighborhood. The children, who chanted the slogan "We want a park," received attention on social media. Residents stated that there is a need for a children's park in the neighborhood and that the children do not have a place to play. "WE CAN'T PLAY ON THE STREETS, WE WANT A PARK"Zümra Akkaya, a 10-year-old who led the children's protest in the neighborhood, said, "We can't play on the streets because of passing cars. Some people don't allow us to play in front of the buildings. If a park is built here, at least we can play here and it would be nice. I saw children in a different city shouting 'We want a park' on TV, so I told my friends and we wanted to do the same. If a park is built, we will play in the park," she said. Yiğit Dursun Demir, a 12-year-old, said they want the empty space in their neighborhood to be turned into a park and that they don't want to go far. Demir expressed their desire for a park to be built in their neighborhood and said, "We wanted to organize this protest for a park to be built here." Buğra Kağan Çiçek, 14, explained that they get bored because there is no park in the neighborhood, so they organized such a protest. SUPPORT FROM THE NEIGHBORHOOD HEADMAN FOR THE CHILDREN'S PROTESTNail Çelebi, the headman of Karşıyaka neighborhood, said that they have been in talks for the construction of a park in the area but have not made much progress. Headman Çelebi said, "We are in the year 2024 and we want our neighborhood to have a more suitable appearance. Despite being a large neighborhood, Karşıyaka only has one park and two pine groves. This does not suit our neighborhood and us. Since I took office, I have done all the necessary correspondence to have this area, which has completed the construction process, turned into a park and asked for support from the relevant authorities. Finally, our children decided to organize such a protest with dedication, and we fully support them," he said. Headman Nail Çelebi said, "We want this park to be built quickly, but we want it to be built in a way that suits the modern age. There is no point in wasting time anymore, and I don't think it has a high cost. We expect support from the authorities. This area belongs to Altınordu Municipality, and we currently have 6 park areas in our neighborhood, and this is one of the areas where construction has been completed. We urgently want these parks to be built; these places have become nests for pests and insects," he said. RESIDENTS OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD CAME TO THEIR WINDOWS AND BALCONIESThe residents of the buildings also supported the children who continued their protests in the neighborhood. People of all ages came to their windows and balconies to support the children's demand for a park. Meanwhile, Altınordu Mayor Ulaş Tepe stated in his social media post that they will start working on the construction of a park after the necessary inspections.
