In December 2023, the minimum wage was set at 17,002 TL and it was determined to be "valid for one year" by the government before negotiations even began. However, with inflation reaching a peak of 75.45% according to TÜİK in May, workers have started to expect a new adjustment to their wages. MAJORITY SAYS "MINIMUM WAGE IS INSUFFICIENT"While government officials continue to state that there will be no interim wage increase, the results of a survey conducted among citizens, who have the power to govern, revealed interesting findings. The results of the ORC Research survey, conducted between June 10-14 with 5,620 participants, were shared. Citizens were asked the question, "Do you find the amount of minimum wage applied in Turkey sufficient?" 77.6% of the respondents answered "No, I do not find it sufficient," while only 8.9% stated "Yes" and found the minimum wage sufficient. 13.5% of the participants did not express their opinion. LATEST STATEMENT FROM THE GOVERNMENT: WE HAVE NO PLANSAK Party Deputy Chairman Hamza Dağ stated in response to a question about whether there will be any wage increase in the minimum wage, "Our main struggle now is to reduce inflation. We will start to see a decrease in inflation from June onwards. I can say that there will be no process regarding the minimum wage in July." Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan also stated, "There will be no increase in the minimum wage. We will come together in December for the new minimum wage. There is no welfare bonus for retirees on our agenda."
