Isparta Governor Abdullah Erin stated that the claims circulating on social media about "Isparta being the number one in Turkey for substance abuse" are not true. Associate Professor Dr. Adnan Karaibrahimoğlu, who conducted the survey, said, "The prevalence of substance addiction and usage in Isparta is well below the national average."

At the meeting of the 2025 3rd Provincial Coordination Board for the Struggle Against Addiction held at the Isparta Governorship, the scientific study measuring the level of addiction at Süleyman Demirel University was shared. According to the study, which lasted approximately 6 months, it was determined that the city is not the first in Turkey in terms of the usage rate of any type of addictive substances.

"ALLEGATIONS DO NOT REFLECT THE TRUTH"

Isparta Governor Abdullah Erin stated in his speech at the meeting that a study has been conducted for about 1 year to determine the level of addiction in the city, expressing that the claims on social media that "the city is first in the use of addictive substances" do not reflect the truth.

Governor Erin continued his remarks as follows: "We have always rejected this. The data obtained from our fight against substances throughout Isparta, the studies of our universities, and the findings of our other institutions have led us to a conclusion that confirms our view. There is no result different from what we anticipated. We are not in the first place in Turkey for substance use as claimed. From now on, all our institutions, local governments, universities, our health organization, the Family and Social Services Directorate, and BAMKOM will continue our efforts to reduce addiction to the lowest level with determination in coordination."

"SUBSTANCE ADDICTION IS WELL BELOW THE TURKISH AVERAGE"

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Adnan Karaibrahimoğlu, who conducted the survey, stated that the study was carried out using the ASIST scale developed by the World Health Organization. He reported that the study was conducted with approximately 7,200 participants using samples prepared according to completely scientific methods, saying, "While the average in Turkey is 2.6%, we obtained a usage frequency close to the average in Isparta. Substance addiction and usage frequency in Isparta are well below the Turkish average. I would like to emphasize this particularly."
