LIVE BROADCAST ON LARGE SCREENS
The people came together in the Umayyad Square in the capital Damascus and in the Seba Bahrat Square in Deir ez-Zor. Shara, who is the first Syrian leader to address the UN in 58 years, had his speech broadcast live on large screens set up in the squares.
SHARA: WE ARE OPENING A DIFFICULT AND NEW CHAPTER
In his historic speech, Shara stated, "We fought for justice, not revenge. We are opening a difficult and new chapter. We want the international community to stand by us against attacks in accordance with the 1974 agreement. As soon as the old regime falls, we have put forth a very clear policy. Security, stability, and economic development were our three fundamental principles. We have established a commission for the missing. Now, of course, we are legislating for the parliament and establishing new institutions by abolishing the old forms of all institutions.
"I ESPECIALLY THANK TURKEY"
The lies have disappeared, and the truths have emerged. Syria has taken its rightful place among the nations of the world. I want to thank all our supporters and countries that stand by us in the cause of the Syrian people. I especially want to thank Turkey, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Arab countries.
"WE STAND BY THE PEOPLE OF GAZA"
We are one of the countries that best understand the horrors of war, and for this reason, we stand by the people of Gaza. We stand by the people of Gaza, the children of Gaza, and all peoples facing attacks and brutality. Syria has opened a new chapter for peace, prosperity, and stability."
"THE CHAINS ON THE SYRIAN PEOPLE'S WRISTS MUST BE BROKEN"
Shara, who called out to the world and made a historic appeal, said, "The chains on the wrists of the Syrian people must be broken, and the sanctions against our country must be lifted."
