The claim that "the number of municipalities to be appointed a trustee will reach 16."

The Ministry of Interior announced that trustees have been appointed to the DEM Party's Tunceli Municipality and the CHP's Ovacık Municipality. Following the relevant decision, a claim that will attract much attention has emerged.

Evaluating the trustee appointments, Sözcü columnist Saygı Öztürk made striking statements. Öztürk noted that trustee appointments would continue and drew attention to the Van Metropolitan Municipality.

Pointing out that trustee appointments have been made since 2016, Öztürk stated, "Of course, there is justified opposition to trustee appointments. But then, efforts should be made to change this law. So, are the opposition parties making the necessary efforts in this regard? This is an important question. Has a bill been proposed? What is being done about this issue? The public needs to be informed about this matter." he said.

Öztürk, who said, "This suspension does not mean that the person is being tried or convicted. It is just a temporary situation. This process needs to be understood," continued his speech as follows:

"Now, are there trustee appointments that will continue in the upcoming process? Of course, there are. There are places where trustee appointments are planned. According to the information I received, this number seems to be around 15-16. So, how will these appointments be made? To avoid a strong backlash, it is expected that small-scale appointments will be made instead of all being done at once. For example, trustee appointments will be made more in district municipalities like Tunceli, Ovacık, or Halfeti."

"VAN MUNICIPALITY MAY COME BACK TO THE AGENDA"

For instance, there was a trustee appointment on the agenda regarding the Mayor of Van. However, this appointment was temporarily halted. This process is not over. In the future, Van may come back to the agenda based on lawsuits and information. It seems that such appointments will continue."

WHAT HAD HAPPENED?

After Esenyurt, Mardin, Batman, and Halfeti, trustees were also appointed to Tunceli and its district Ovacık. In a statement made by the Ministry of Interior, it was reported that Tunceli Mayor Cevdet Konak, who was removed from office, was replaced by Tunceli Governor Bülent Tekbıyıkoğlu as the Deputy Mayor. Ovacık Mayor Mustafa Sarıgül from the CHP was replaced by Ovacık District Governor Hüseyin Şamil Sözen.
