After a dry spring and summer in Istanbul, the reservoir levels are decreasing every day despite the autumn rains. According to İSKİ data, the reservoir levels, which approached 80% last March, are now measured at 24.96%. With the decrease in the reservoir levels in Istanbul, areas that were once filled with water in the reservoir basins have completely dried up. In the Büyükçekmece Reservoir basin, areas where fish used to swim are now seen with livestock grazing, while the areas under the viaducts built for the reservoir have turned into green spaces.
While the water levels in 4 of the reservoirs supplying water to Istanbul have fallen below 20%, the reservoir with the lowest level is the Kazandere reservoir, with a level of 2.65%. Currently, the fullest reservoir in Istanbul is the Elmalı reservoir, with 49.74%.
