THEY WILL APPEAR IN COURT ON JULY 13

The date for the 5 defendants, including Eylem Tok and Bülent Cihantimur, to appear before the judge regarding the incident has been determined. The trial of the defendants will begin on July 13 at the Istanbul 28th Criminal Court of First Instance.

FROM THE INDICTMENT

In the indictment prepared by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, Özer Aci, Şükriye Aci, Pervin Aci, and Ezgi Hilal Büyük are listed as 'complainants,' while Hasan Topal, İbrahim Gümüş, Süleyman Keçici, and Tahsin Arslan are listed as 'victims.' Additionally, Bülent Cihantimur, Eylem Tok, Adem Kızıltepe, Ayşe Ceren Saltoğlu, and Berna Öcalgiray are listed as 'suspects.'

The indictment states that on March 1, 2024, suspects Eylem Tok and Bülent Cihantimur's son, Timur Cihantimur, caused a traffic accident with the vehicle he was using, resulting in the death of Oğuz Murat Acı and injuries to Süleyman Keçici, İbrahim Gümüş, Hasan Topal, and Tahsin Arslan.

IT WAS STATED THAT THEY TOOK A PHONE CONSIDERED AS EVIDENCE FROM THE SCENE

The indictment states that suspects Tok and Saltoğlu acted together to take Timur Cihantimur from the scene of the incident to Tok's residence, that the mobile phone belonging to the injured İbrahim Gümüş was taken from the scene by an individual with information, Z.H., and later left on the wall of a site through K.A., where it was secured by the site security. It was reported that suspects Adem Kızıltepe, Eylem Tok, and Berna Öcalgiray went to the site to retrieve the phone, which was considered evidence of the crime of 'causing death and injury by negligence,' and that the phone was handed over to Öcalgiray by the security chief, and later delivered to law enforcement by suspect Adem Kızıltepe. In this context, it was assessed that the suspects acted in concert to seize the evidence, and their defenses were not taken into account.

After the phone in question was taken by the suspects, the indictment states that suspects Eylem Tok, Bülent Cihantimur, Ayşe Ceren Saltoğlu, and Adem Kızıltepe went to the house where Timur Cihantimur was located, that Timur Cihantimur's mother and father stayed in this house for a while, and that suspects Saltoğlu and Kızıltepe waited outside the house. Subsequently, it was stated that Timur Cihantimur and his father left for the road in a vehicle belonging to Bülent Cihantimur, and that suspects Tok and Saltoğlu followed this vehicle. After a while, Bülent Cihantimur's vehicle stopped on the road, and Timur Cihantimur got into the vehicle driven by Ayşe Ceren Saltoğlu, during which a suitcase was also transferred from suspect Bülent Cihantimur's vehicle to Saltoğlu's vehicle.

IT WAS REPORTED THAT THEY PROVIDED OPPORTUNITIES TO HELP A CRIMINAL AVOID CAPTURE

The indictment states that suspects Eylem Tok, Bülent Cihantimur, Ayşe Ceren Saltoğlu, and Adem Kızıltepe smuggled minor Timur Cihantimur abroad without conducting an alcohol test or taking his statement. It was reported that Eylem Tok, Adem Kızıltepe, and Berna Öcalgiray concealed the phone belonging to the injured victim İbrahim Gümüş, which was present at the scene during the accident and was evidence of the crime, and that the suspects acted in concert to commit the crime of 'destroying, concealing, or altering evidence.' The indictment noted that the suspects provided opportunities to help a criminal avoid capture.

The indictment also stated that Timur Cihantimur and Eylem Tok flew to Egypt on the night of the incident and then to the United States, and that despite nearly 2 years passing since the incident, they have not returned, thus committing the crime of 'harboring a criminal' in concert.

REQUEST FOR UP TO 10 YEARS IN PRISON

The indictment requests that suspects Bülent Cihantimur, Eylem Tok, Adem Kızıltepe, and Ayşe Ceren Saltoğlu be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison for the crimes of 'harboring a criminal' and 'destroying, concealing, or altering evidence.' A request for up to 5 years in prison for suspect Berna Öcalgiray was made for the crime of 'destroying, concealing, or altering evidence.'

Additionally, an investigation is ongoing separately for Timur Cihantimur due to being under 18 years of age at the time of the incident.
