In the Party Assembly meeting held under the chairmanship of CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, the agenda of early elections was discussed along with the implementation of a primary election to determine the presidential candidate. While a decision for the primary election was officially made, the criteria for candidacy were announced during the meeting, stating that the candidate must meet the conditions of being a presidential candidate in the most recent presidential election and must be a party member.

The criteria for candidacy in the primary elections for the presidential candidacy were determined by the Republican People's Party (CHP) Party Assembly (PM) meeting, which requires candidates to meet the conditions of being a presidential candidate in the last presidential election and being a party member.

The CHP Party Assembly convened at the party headquarters under the chairmanship of its General President Özgür Özel. The meeting lasted approximately 5 hours.

DECISION FOR PRIMARY ELECTION TAKEN

According to information obtained from party sources, the PM, which convened with the agenda of "early elections," decided to implement a "primary election" process to determine the presidential candidate that CHP will present in the next general election by asking approximately 1 million 600 thousand party members. As a result of the discussions held, the decision for the primary election was made.

CANDIDACY CRITERIA OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCED

In this context, while the guidelines prepared for the primary election were read, the issues of the legality of the primary election and its compliance with the party's charter were discussed. Among the candidacy criteria stated in the guidelines, it was emphasized that the candidate must meet the conditions of being a presidential candidate in the last presidential election and must be a party member.

NOTABLE THAT IT WAS NOT PUT TO A VOTE BY PM MEMBERS

During the meeting, the guidelines were not put to a vote by PM members, while the Central Executive Board (MYK) was granted the authority to revise the guidelines. It was learned that the primary election and the guidelines would also be on the agenda in the MYK meeting to be held today.

Additionally, in the PM, the investigation initiated by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the CHP's 38th Ordinary Congress was also discussed.

WHAT HAPPENED?

CHP General President Özgür Özel announced in a statement made in recent weeks that they would go to a primary election to determine the party's presidential candidate; Özel stated, "We are taking action to determine our presidential candidate. We will start in February and March with our organization and our ballot box officials," he said. Özel's statements caused discussions within the CHP, and Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş stated that it was too early to determine the presidential candidacy and announced that he would not participate in the primary election.
