Eren Uzuner (35), who shot and killed his friend Barkın Perçin (34) with a gun while having tea with Fatma Özdemir (27), whom he had a platonic love for, and injured three others, including one police officer, said, "I learned that they were reading my mind with artificial intelligence. I found out that they were selling the words I kept inside to singers. I could no longer withstand the psychological pressure, so I carried out this incident."

Eren Uzuner, who worked as a driver at a home goods sales store in Tekirdağ, saw his platonic love Fatma Özdemir on October 4, 2024, while she was sitting with his friend Barkın Perçin in front of a tea house near the workplace on Hükümet Street in the Süleymanpaşa district. Eren Uzuner approached Özdemir and Perçin, who were sitting on a stool, and opened fire with the gun he was carrying. Özdemir and Perçin were injured by the bullets that hit their bodies. Uzuner then returned to the store with the weapon in hand and shot and injured his coworkers, a woman named N.Ç.K. and S.D. Eren Uzuner then fled in the store's delivery vehicle. While escaping, he injured one of the police officers who stopped his vehicle. The injured were taken to the hospital, and Fatma Özdemir and Barkın Perçin lost their lives.

REQUEST FOR 2 TIMES AGGRAVATED LIFE SENTENCE

Uzuner's trial began today at the Tekirdağ 2nd High Criminal Court. The detained defendant Eren Uzuner was connected via SEGBİS, while the families of the deceased and the lawyers of the parties were present at the hearing. In his defense at the hearing, Uzuner claimed that his mind was read by artificial intelligence and that his thoughts were known in advance. Eren Uzuner, who stated that he had feelings for Fatma Özdemir, said, "Later, I confessed to her. After confessing to Fatma, I started seeing her at the tea house. Then they started mocking me constantly, and I questioned why they did this. I learned that they were reading my mind with artificial intelligence. I found out that the words I kept inside were sold to singers. I could no longer withstand the psychological pressures and carried out this incident."

HEARING ADJOURNED

Defendant Uzuner claimed that he did not intentionally fire at the police officer who was injured while he was escaping, stating that the gun went off accidentally during the crash. Police officer Ö.K., who was heard as a witness at the hearing, testified that the defendant fired directly at him and that he was injured in the face. S.D. and N.Ç.K., who were injured by Eren Uzuner with a gun in the store, also requested the heaviest punishment for the defendant. Selen Özdemir, the sister of Fatma Özdemir, stated that Uzuner had previously threatened her sister and expressed her desire for him to receive the heaviest sentence. Mustafa Perçin, the father of the deceased Barkın Perçin, also stated that he did not accept the defendant's statements and that he should receive a life sentence. The hearing was adjourned.

'WE WILL FIGHT LEGALLY FOR HIS HEAVIEST PUNISHMENT'

The families' lawyer Kamil Can Yavaş stated in a statement after the hearing that the defendant carried out the incident with premeditation. Yavaş said, "He stated that he felt no remorse. For this reason, we, as lawyers, will fight legally for the defendant to be punished in the heaviest way for the murder committed against a woman. I hope such an incident never happens again, and no woman or any person is killed in this way." Lawyer Fırat Eren Canpolat also stated that the defendant felt no remorse for the incident and that they would follow the process to ensure he receives the necessary punishment.
