The European Union (EU) has made radical changes to its visa policies in recent years. Especially, the rejection rates for visa applications from Turkey have reached the highest levels in history.

Continuing to add new restrictions to the policies being implemented, EU countries are preparing to take new restrictive measures regarding applications made by Turkish citizens through Bulgaria.

STARTING ON JANUARY 1, 2025

Despite being EU members, visa controls have been applied to Bulgaria and Romania until now, but with the new year, citizens of the two countries will be granted the right to free movement.

One of the main agenda items of the meeting was to prevent the irregular migrations that have increased in recent years towards the Balkan countries. It was also decided that Bulgaria would take additional measures to protect its border with Turkey.
